Terms of Service
Last updated: July 15, 2026
Welcome to Origin. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your membership in Origin, a private platform for founders.
Origin is operated by Maker Platforms, Inc. D/B/A Origin Platforms ("Origin," "we," "us"). By applying for or maintaining a membership, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility and Membership
Membership is open to founders aged 18 or older. Membership is granted through an application process and is personal to you. It may not be shared, transferred, or sold. Origin may accept or decline applications at its discretion based on fit and community capacity.
2. Community Values and Code of Conduct
Membership requires upholding Origin's Community Values and Code of Conduct, which are part of these Terms. In short: treat members with respect, keep what's shared within Origin confidential, don't solicit or pitch to members, and never use what you learn inside Origin to harm another member or their work. Violations may result in a warning, suspension from events, or removal from the community.
3. Dues and Billing
Membership dues are paid monthly or annually via credit card or bank transfer through Stripe, and are charged automatically at the start of each billing period. If your payment method fails and isn't updated within 14 days, your membership will be automatically cancelled. Full details are in our Billing Guidelines, which are part of these Terms.
4. Refunds
All paid dues are non-refundable. Monthly dues are final once paid. For annual memberships, if you leave or are removed from the community, the months you've already used are non-refundable, but we will refund the remaining full months of your annual term. Refunds are processed within 14 days of cancellation.
5. Cancellation and Reactivation
You can cancel your membership anytime on the member dashboard. If your membership has been cancelled, you'll need to reapply to rejoin. Reactivation requests are reviewed based on the current capacity of the community, and acceptance is not guaranteed.
6. Confidentiality
Everything shared within Origin, from ideas and struggles to numbers and personal details, stays within the community unless the person who shared it gives explicit permission. This obligation continues after your membership ends.
7. Member Content
You retain ownership of anything you share within Origin. By sharing it, you give other members permission to view it within the community, subject to the confidentiality obligations above. You're responsible for what you share and agree not to post anything unlawful, infringing, or harmful.
8. In-Person Events
Origin occasionally hosts in-person events. By attending, you agree to follow the Code of Conduct and acknowledge that you attend voluntarily and at your own risk. Origin is not responsible for personal injury, or loss or damage to personal property, at events except where caused by our negligence or where liability cannot be limited by law.
9. Origin's Role
Origin provides a community, not professional advice. Nothing shared within Origin, by the team or by members, constitutes legal, financial, investment, or other professional advice. Any business dealings between members are solely between those members; Origin does not mediate private disputes.
10. Termination of Membership
We protect this community fiercely. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your membership at any time, with or without cause, and with or without prior notice, at our sole discretion. This includes, but is not limited to, violations of these Terms, conduct that undermines the trust or safety of the community, or behavior that we believe is inconsistent with the values or purpose of Origin. Unless required by law, terminated memberships are not eligible for a refund.
11. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
Origin is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, Origin, Maker Platforms Inc., and their teams are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your membership. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the dues you paid in the 12 months before the claim arose.
12. Changes to These Terms
Origin reserves the right to update its membership terms, dues, and benefits at any time. We'll notify members of material changes, and continued membership after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.
